How to attract people to my server?

I don't host it much anymore, but I'm trying to start it back up again. I sometimes host a hunger games server, but nobody seems to join. It isn't up at times for a general discussion server topic. How could I attract people to my server?

there's like no way to attract people to your server anymore because all of the players are on the most popular servers.

If you host it I'll join. The more players there are to begin with usually has an outlook on final players.

It's usually much easier to get players in your servers during the morning hours when the bigger servers aren't taking up the 1st page of the server list.

I remember a time where the host's name wasn't what sorted the server's name, and people could put symbols to get higher in the list.

It's easier than you think: host a fun server.

It's also exponentially easier to start up a server in the dead of the night. People will join your server one at a time through chance, as long as there is entertainment for them your server will slowly move up the server list until it hits the #1 or #2 most popular server. At that point it explodes with popularity.

Hard to say, just host a fun server and don't give up.  If its any good ppl may just invite their friend.  The more people you get the more likely others will join since some ppl do not even bother to scroll down.  My server managed to make top of the list on its first day but after I had trouble getting people who were non-admins.  Kept hosting it and making updates and now I have a lot of regulars.

I got about 10 people joining even after I said it's for my friends.
