Which idea sounds better?

The Hunger Games Deathmatch
The Medieval RP

Author Topic: I Am Currently Debating Two Projects I Want to Start and Require Input.  (Read 2784 times)

After I finished a large build of mine, I decided that I should start working on a big server; however, I am still debating as to which idea sounds better. The first of the two ideas is a revival of an older project. Over the summer, I hosted a Hunger Games server, unique for its large diversity of maps and customizable players; however, especially since people stopped coming to my server, and with strong competition from Zalot (who, I must mention, does have a nice server), I stopped hosting. Looking back, I realize that some parts of the build were just sub-par (the Cornucopia is so crappy I tried to avoid taking pictures of it), so I want to share pictures of the original build to know if the build is worth reviving. I admit I kind of went stingy with the pictures, so if you are all interested, I might rehost the server so everyone can get a taste of what it was like. I think you could probably tell from the pictures and captions that I'm not absolutely in love with the old build, and kind of want to rebuild it in the future.

Aries Desert

This map was the original, and honestly one of the best. It is full of secret tunnels, it has a nice diversity of weapons, and just felt fun to play in.

Cancer Valley

The second map, this one is a little bit smaller than the others; however, that makes it one of the more interesting maps. You can actually break the ice above the two lakes (the picture shows the smaller of the two) and hide under the maps. I recall a player stalling through a round (which is against the rules if you do it to hide from the final player, mind you), and then during the end, emerged and won the game! Sure, it's not honest, but at least players are actually using the secret areas.

Capricorn Swamp

The third map made, I remember, was a bit controversial.  If you don't know about the Cornucopia backpack (yes, that's a cornucopia, and those 2x4s are backpacks.), almost every backpack in there is a melee weapon. I decided that because a lot of people like to use bows to fight, having a map that challenges players to use other skills to fight was a good idea. The water in this map slowly hurts you, so not only are you tested in your sword fighting abilities, you also have to be able to tactically jump from island from island. This didn't receive well with players, unfortunately. At least it's my favorite map and the most aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion.

Libra Paradise

I'm ashamed I made this map; hence the stuffty picture barely showing any detail. The intention to give the map a surreal feeling, but it just didn't look well. From a gameplay perspective, the weapons are supposed to be "perfectly balanced," because it's the Libra themed map. I did this because one person was complaining that the weapons are varied in strength! Normally, in a deathmatch, that would be criminal, but in the Hunger Games, the one of the challenges of the game should be to find a good set of weapons in the Cornucopia before you get murdered by someone else. It just seems like the Hunger Games are an exception to many deathmatch traditions.

Leo Volcano

A lot of work went into just the volcano, and I guess it came it OK. There is also a tunnel system that's more complex than the desert's. There is also a low diversity of weapons, which can be good in some instances.

Scorpio Rapids

Aaaand this is when I realized that my maps weren't that great. This map feels exactly like Libra Paradise, but more spacious and filled with water. Some people do like it, but eugh... At least the rapids make a fun hazard around the map.

If you guys are interested in this gamemode, I will host a server, and possibly remake it so that it is actually decent looking. I would like a team of people, especially because I suck at making trees, and could use some help wit that. Also, the current project is only half-finished,  so pointers on it would be great. I, however, do not mind killing it off if you guys see little potential.

On the other hand, I considered starting a medieval roleplay. The gamemode generally has a bad connotation, so I hoped to change that. I really enjoy creating interesting worlds, and I've seen few RPs that have done that successfully.  If this option wins the poll, I'll make a separate OP in a few months that lists the information in detail, and also get more people to help me with building.

Don't forget to vote!

Make it a Hunger Games DM! They can be really fun and intense, but are often ruined by bad admins and crappy builds. You have a lot of different, good looking builds and I think that makes your maps perfect for a hunger games server, and they seem to have a lot of depth to them.

luck can decide anything

I'm asking this because if I want a project that people will not only be interested in playing, but because I need help. I'm not exactly good at doing things myself, and a little support from other players would be lovely.

also I just realized that the deathmatch is going to win no matter what I do, I barely gave any information on the roleplay.

I'll host in a jiffy.

make it so hunger games has random events that happen
like zombies
and rocket rain
and even horse rays

It's harder to event than you may think. I may consider it once I make all 12 planned maps, or I get a coder who is capable of doing something like that with zones or something.

these maps are melee and spear/bow right?

because for guns, these are horrible maps. everything is wide open and the space is small. would be a very short lived and boring dm when you can kill or be killed from spawn.

all you really need is relays and projectile hits

Yes, guns would be illogical, but...

I think that's one of the reasons the server suffered. Anyway, my internet is being annoying, so I may not be able to host for a while. More at 4.

so you are just going to use the wrong weapons on the wrong maps because its more popular?

i thought you wanted to make a great dm, not play some top of the server list game to pat your ego on the back.

maps are too small with not enough going on to be any fun

needs more buildings, or caves/tunnels - or ANYTHING besides just open terrain. make them bigger too.

No, no, that's not what I meant! I meant the size of the maps/fast pacedness of the game was the issue! Although, now that I'm playing again, I'm not sure that's an issue.

I didn't take pictures of the whole map. They're fine for shorter games, and have plenty of tunnels, secrets, and what not. Plus, the point of the thread was to find supporters so that I can redo this, so I guess they should suck a little bit.
