Then I would appreciate your help with this.

So I have a system of mine running Ubuntu server and I Installed steamcmd on it. Then I tried to run it and got this.

Code: [Select]
sudo ./steamcmd.sh
main.cpp (316)  : Assertion Failed: Couldn't chdir into the install path

Anyone know how to fix this?

Just bump that thread?

Just bump that thread?
It would be pointless to lock this thread and bump that one now.
Edit; Also because he made the topic in the gaming section. main.cpp [316]: Assertion Failed: Couldn't chdir into the install path

I don't have any experience with Ubuntu server, but I did have a problem similar to this with another thing I was installing.
Its possibly because the directory its trying to change to doesn't exist, for example if I tried to change to /path/ and it didn't exist it would give me an error, and stop the script.
Else, try fakeroot and running ./steamcmd.sh

Looks like you don't have proper permissions. Try
sudo chmod -R 755 *

Yeah and while you're at it just login as root all the time.  Why would you change every single file's permissions?!

The problem isn't Ubuntu Server. You don't have the directories created for the script to work, meaning Steam is not installed. Download and install Steam_latest.deb, run the client, and try again.

Well, you usually don't want to run Steam as root anyway.
Although I run my Garry's Mod server as root.

You shouldn't be running anything as root unless it's any sort of installation process.  In case you didn't catch it (I can't honestly tell, I'm not trying to be an ass here) I was just being sarcastic with the login as root sentence.
There's your problem.

I know, but Steam was being stubborn with permissions. It's easier to just run it as root.

Why should I exactly

Yeah, gmod is horrible about that for some reason.  It completely randomly decides if it wants to install right for me.

Why should I exactly

There's nothing wrong with Ubuntu Server. It's probably a VPS or something.
