$17,038,625,000,000

So apparently we hit 17 trillion dollar debt mark sometime without me knowing about it. But seriously, $17 trillion dollars. That's 12 zeros. We are the country with the most debt on the planet. We have more debt than the entire European Union combined. And yet some of us still think they can honestly call the U.S the wealthiest country on earth? Really?

I'm not saying what we should do about it, but we should do SOMETHING about it shouldn't we? All I ever hear us doing in regards to this nowadays is "raise the debt limit!" When are we going to realize that this is an incredibly serious problem? When my parents were kids the debt was only in the billions, when did this happen!?

I feel like eventually China and all these other countries are going to realize that we're never paying them back and they're just going to stop trading with us entirely and watch the U.S implode on itself. Or they're going to come and take what we owe them.

Also, this is somewhat relevant

So anyways, yeah I just felt like complaining about this.

Lock this, take an economics class, then create a new post utilizing the knowledge you've learned.

All I can say is revolution. Whether it be initiated by the president (AKA, throwing out most of the congress, and re-introducing new people like TR did) or a civil protest (Not likely gonna work, Congress wants their power/money) or a bloody war, something has got to happen.

China would never do that, we're so dependent on each other neither would consider stopping trade. That would end up being a very big loose-loose situation.

Lol what are you talking about?

yeah, because getting involved in another war or anarchizing the government will fix 17 trillion dollars worth of debt

Yeah I know, but there has to be a limit to this right? What if we ever hit the quadrillions? The people we're in debt with can't just sit idly by forever

as if they'd stop trade with a world superpower

that would kill them as well as us

Some of the stuff we owe actually went into our military. Also, half of our debt is actually a big chuck we still don't have back after loaning countries money, I think.

I'm not saying that it will be civil war, I don't really even want to suggest a bloody war, more or less a mass, country wide protest by most of the people of the country.
