From my point of view, Osama Bin Laden's death is little compared to a 17 trillion dollar debt limit
If I could choose between having dead the most wanted terrorist on the planet or completely eliminating the debt entirely, i would choose the debt to destroy.
too bad you can't drop a bomb on debt

clearing 17 trillion dollars isn't as simple as all of you think it is

considering obama spent his entire first election trying to fix what bush forgeted up, he's doing very well for himself

you know, assassinating bin laden

keeping good ties with russia/china

not being a bumbling idiot

something bush couldn't do
Are you joking, have you even seen his bad side?

The first step is to stop paying congressmen while the government is loving SHUT DOWN. Seriously, you furlough half of the government workers without pay, and yet you STILL keep taking your 2k paychecks? Granted a few of them actually decided to humor us and not take the money, but they still have enough to last them a year or so.

good thing you're an informed teacher right???

The only people that know what they're doing are independent, and will never get into office.
We need a rebellion, preferably peaceful.

@OP:

the $17 trillion mark was hit as the government reopened because of all the lapsed funding that was added on to our debt.

we still are (one of, anyways) the wealthiest nation in the world.  government debt =/= indicator of how our economy is doing.  our economy is doing well as far as post-recession goes, the problem is government spending and complete political gridlock (see: sequester, shutdown) as well as rampant deregulation that allowed for stuff to go loving haywire everywhere.

the progress being made towards solving the debt crCIA is being done by congress.  in other words, no progress at all and the can is continuously being kicked down the road.  if you want change, make change happen.  i don't want to come off as criticizing you harshly or anything, but political change doesn't happen on an online forum.

countries like china want the US dollar to stop being the global currency.  if the dollar stopped being a global currency, however, then our debt wouldn't be worth anything to the countries that bought it up like china.  that's about it.  there's still a total mutual dependency on each other for trade.

Lock this, take an economics class, then create a new post utilizing the knowledge you've learned.

Instead of saying "lolkids", you can contribute by saying your stance on the subject or objecting to someone elses statement.

You know the government reopened, right?

Then say something meaningful and maybe you can turn this discussion around and educate these clearly uneducated... teenagers.
