Author Topic: Here's a riddle for you guys.  (Read 1058 times)

You see something in a store that you want. It's $97.
You ask $50 from your mom, and $50 from your dad.
After buying it, you give $1 to your mom and $1 to your dad. You keep the extra dollar for yourself.
You now owe your mom and dad $49 dollars each.
49 + 49 = 98 + Your dollar = 99
What happened to that last dollar?

spent on a cheap prostitute.

You only owe them $48.50 and that last dollar is split between them.

So you take the dollar you still have and give $.50 to each parent.

you kept it, the 49+49+1=99 is how much you owe mixed with what you still have, the riddle changes context halfway through so the math doesn't function correctly

2/10 took me <20 seconds to figure out

idiots guide:

after spending 97, you have 3 left and owe 100

you give one back to each parent, so you owe 98 and keep the last dollar

you still spent 97 on the game and gave 2 back to your parents, so you have the last dollar

You have $0. You get $100 from parents, so $100 in debt. Spend $97. Give back $1 each, keep one. You are now $98 in debt. Product was $97, you have one left over. $97 plus your dollar = $98, the amount you have left.

Basically, the riddle contains faulty math.

Eaten by a ravenous giant fish.

You cannot add the debts to existing money.
Here's a chart that debunks this:

                              You              Your mom            Your dad              Store
Beginning               0                 50                        50                       0
After borrowing       100             0                          0                         0
After buying            3                 0                          0                         97
After paying $1       1                 1                          1                         97

And it equals 100. You owe your parents 49 dollar each, but you cannot add that money directly to the $1.
Instead of adding 49+49, you need to count the $97 that went to the store and add it with your $1, your dad's $1, and your mom's $1.

both parents = 100$
spent = 97$

Product = 3$

Give one to each.
Product = 1$

Take that last dollar.

Product = 0$

I don't get this?

the people who find this hilarious are the same people who say "vote to end women's suffrage!"

So you are really just borrowing $100 from your father.

the people who find this hilarious are the same people who say "vote to end women's suffrage!"
literally nobody is finding it hilarious
