except that learning any language is good for you for forgets sake we literally just had this discussion
not really. knowing a language is only as useful as its needed.
japanese is very far from needed in the world.

I'm learning German because I plan on moving to Germany in the future. unless you're moving there, or have to work with someone speaking that language, then you shouldn't learn the language. it would be a waste of your time

learning japanese is by no means pointless. it has a big enough population that translators are in demand, albeit not as much as other countries like germany

"Physiological studies have found that speaking two or more languages is a great asset to the cognitive process. The brains of bilingual people operate differently than single language speakers, and these differences offer several mental benefits."

it also helps you improve your english by bringing your attention to grammar in different languages.
the list goes on

so i kinda forgeted up in not taking a language in high school the first two years because i think most everywhere it's a required three years
but either way i need look into learning something

spanish may be common but it honestly doesn't interest me and i don't feel like i'll have a whole lot of use for it, i'm not going to spend a whole lot of time learning a language i'm not interested in anyways
french i've actually heard at least two dozen people say they hate more than getting thrown in a hole (because of the teachers, not the language) so i'm not even considering that
there's some others like latin and german but i really don't see the use of those

which leaves japanese
i have several relatives on my mothers side who are japanese, i myself am a quarter japanese. the language seems interesting enough and it's honestly the most interesting out the available ones at my school
thing is it also looks a little complicated and if i get frustrated with it part way through i won't be able to just switch over

why do you care so much about what other people are doing with their lives? how is it going to affect you if people learn japanese? does it look like you're getting anywhere trying to push the point that all people that are interested in japanese culture are terrible, awful people, bent-on-world-destruction? at this point you're only still posting in this thread because you think you either think it's funny or are actually trying to change our minds, and if it's by insulting us, it isn't going to work. knock it off.

you make a good point why people should learn another language.
but you have only proven yourself a lame weeaboo by making NO point as to why japanese is the least bit relevant to the world, much less just for yourself.

japan isnt exactly at the forefront of business or influence in the world right now.
in fact their economy is MUCH closer to the brink then even the us's is.

it doesnt matter what language you learn, and i chose japanese (and spanish) because it interests me.

yes, so why wouldn't you choose an actually useful language

There's no such thing as a "useful language" on a general basis if you don't intend on using it. If the masses consider French a "useful language" that doesn't mean every dummy out there wants to go to French or give a forget about French people or care about talking French. Same case as Spanish, German, or whatever else language /you/ consider "useful".

i cringed a bit when i saw this thread

i do have to say that learning a language that you're more likely to use and have use of throughout your life is probably a better idea. learning out of interest isn't a bad idea or anything, but it's just not as useful unless you're in an area where it's a common language or if you know you're going to live where it's spoken. maybe you have friends whose first language is that and you want to be closer to them. w/e. it's nice to say you know how to speak a foreign language regardless of what it is (so long as it's not stupid).

...doesn't mean you're not a weeaboo but that's not 'technically' a bad thing i guess. i just have problems with it personally.
