IRC - #blockland

What is it?
"Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a protocol for live interactive Internet text messaging (chat) or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication via private message as well as chat and data transfer, including file sharing." - Wikipedia

Why should we have one?
Because we can.

Don't we already have one in game?!
Yes, we do. This is not in game. This is for the forum community.

How do I join the IRC?
Read the instructions below.

Rule 0: Respect Rule 4.

Administrative Process and Ranking Up
I explained this in the IRC today so here is the copy pasta of it.
Code: [Select]
17:14 ~Neski:» Also, I think I firgured out a way of handling administrative
               positions
17:14 ~Neski:» basically
17:15 ~Neski:» I will decide who gets to try out for a position
17:15 ~Neski:» That person will then get the position of voice or (+)
17:15 ~Neski:» next to their name
17:16 ~Neski:» I will continue to monitor them as well as other peoples
feedback to see how they are doing. Iff all is well I will rank
them up to the next tier
17:16 ~Neski:» Highest possible tier will be ProtectedOP or (&)
17:17 ~Neski:» And the max that will be allowed in the trial and rank process
at a time will be 10 people

Which means you don't have much time so get in here and join the conversation :)

Owners (~):
~Neski

ProtectOP (&):

HalfOP (%):

Instructions
This is a simple guide to help new users to quickly start chatting in the channel.

1 Find an IRC client
Irssi Most recommended as this tutorial is being done with Irssi (Launch the client via irssi.bat)
Hexchat

2 Connect and Join the Rizon Server
First, we are going to set your connection name. Before we connect to any servers we are going to type in the following:
/SET nick a name you would like
/SET alternate_nick a name you would like
/SET user_name a name you would like
/SET real_name a name you would like

Once you have done those commands, you can now join the server. Type in:
/CONNECT irc.rizon.net

Once you are connected, you now need to register a nickname to the Rizon server via the NickServ bot. Type in the following:
/NICK a nickname you would like

Now type:
/msg NickServ REGISTER password emailaddress

Check your email for a message from service@rizon.net

Now type:
/msg NickServ confirm code from email

Once registered, you can do a number of things with your nickname, such as: get a vhost, get access on a channel, and turn on nickname security. For more information, make sure to type /msg NickServ help

3 Join the Blockland Channel
Very simple step. Once you have done all of the above simply type in:
/JOIN #blockland
Channel names are case sensitive, so make sure it's a lower-case b.

Congratulations. You can now live message freely with fellow Blocklanders.

To leave the channel simply type /part and to leave the server type /disconnect

When re-connecting to the Rizon server you must type in /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password or else you will not be able to join any channel.

Your password is the password you used when registering your nickname with the NickServ.

Channel is open for use 24/7.

I will be a administrator if you want anyone, I do the job and get it done really well.
Do I need to apply for anything?

Also, please do a tutorial for hexchat since I dont want to use irssi

I hereby cast my vote to disallow maxx from any and all administration

I'll do my best with it as long as it doesn't use a ton of data.  I only get 14GB/month.

You're mean. :(

Spook, you should put out some application format.

i'll apply as an admin, made bl mods before, used irc alot before, i think i'm qualified :P

i think if a lot of people uses this it would be a very very cool thing

what's the difference between each form of administration?

can you put the server address and room somewhere other than in the instructions, i found it annoying to have to read through it when I already know irc. just a suggestion.

also i can be admin if you feel like i'm worthy

I'll apply as an administrator

I have no reasons I would qualify other than I can handle social situations and basic communication well.

room is smack dap right at the top of the OP

All SOPs get protectop (&) status in the channel upon entering it, and will be allowed to kick/ban all users that have op status or below. They will also be able to give voice (+), halfop (%), as well as op (@) to other users, and also have the power to take the mode away. Additionally, protectops cannot be kicked from the channel, unless the kick is from a channel owner (~). SOPs can also modify the AKICK list

All AOPs get op (@) status in the channel upon entering it, and will be allowed to kick/ban all users that have op status or below. They will also be able to give voice (+), halfop (%), as well as op (@) to other users, and also have the power to take the mode away.

All HOPs get a halfop (%) in the channel upon entering it, and will be allowed to kick/ban all users that have halfop status or below. They will also be able to give voice (+) and halfop (%) to other users, as well as taking it away. However, if the channel is set to paranoia (channel mode +p), they will not be able to kick other halfops, or fiddle around with +h/-h. They also have the power to set the channel topic, even if channel mode +t (topic lock) is set.

All VOPs get a voice (+) in the channel upon entering it, and as a result will be able to chat in the channel even while the channel is moderated (channel mode +m).

Spook, you should put out some application format.

I will, give me a few minutes.

Well I feel stupid. Am I the only one who can't find Irssi.bat
