Author Topic: Is this racism?  (Read 2543 times)

Recently my friend told me about how our gym teacher said 'hurry up mexicans' at a obvious group of said race.
Now they're planning on reporting him for racism, but i told them at it might not count. tbh its kinda BS, but the hell do i know.

Just calling someone Mexican isn't tribal

i dont really understand how that's oppressive against a race

It still is pretty rude though, so he'll probably still get in trouble.

It's not, but he's definitely going to get in trouble for it.

It's not tribal but it's loving rude

Tell some teacher about it. Thats pretty forgeted up

Just the fact that the gym teacher referred to them as mexicans rather than normal kids is forgeted up. Weather that statement itself is tribal or not, it definitely shows that he is tribal.

An orange is an orange. Am I tribal against oranges for calling an orange an orange?
A person wearing a blue shirt is a person wearing a blue shirt, am I tribal against people with blue shirts by saying: "Hey you, person in the blue shirt."?

If they were not Mexican, I can see where some offense would be taken; but it would be an incorrect observation.

Quote
Racism: a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

A statement of observation, is not racism.

if they were mexican: hey, he's calling them their correct nationality and country of origin. little short sighted, though.
if they weren't: yeah he's basically saying mexicans know how to run from the authorities.

the issue is that it'd be easy just to call them a "group of kids" and not "mexicans"

and the fact he chose "mexicans" over "kids" is rude as hell

i guess

depends on the group of kids he was talking about, but besides that it isn't technically tribal

the teacher can still definitely get in trouble for it though

Everyone is created equal. Just because someone is black, mexican, spanish, or something does not give someone the right to call them by their race. They are kids, and deserve to be called kids, not mexicans.
So yes, in my terms, it's racism.

they're stupid for reporting it because I'm sure the teacher didn't mean to insult or discriminate them in any way
