the gpu installs easily, psu installs easily, ram is just a breeze, the only hard part is installing the motherboard, which is equivalent to a whole new phone in this case
What he means is to have it be more user friendly.
Not everyone has the confidence to connect those parts.

If they were "blocks" or similar modueles, that would be awesome.

This looks like a great idea! Hope it's not too expensive on release.

Why do many of you people think this is a bad idea?
Seriously, you guys are so negative about this when there's nothing wrong with it. The phone can't really suffer from bulkiness when there are microprocessors, flash memory components, and compact camera lenses. Dropping the phone should probably not be a problem either because the components will probably be <$100, but dropping it shouldn't be a problem anyways because the developers would probably make the pieces secure with a screw or something. If you ask me, this idea would work well. Now all that they need to do is make the phone more modular, because the grid on the back of that phone seems too restricted.

TL;DR Just read it. ^

I'll think about buying one when they're released.
It depends on how expensive the bloks are.

"you guys are dumbasses it's literally impossible to do"

Except for the part that phneblocks wasn't a planned out thought. Several people explained why it is impossible. The link in OP is a different design in terms of technology, but same concept.

It's also not likely to be powerful...
it's also very likely to improve over time
not everything starts off incredibly powerful. this is a new concept so it's probably going to have a humble beginning- nothing too powerful or fancy. but as time goes on, the technology for this can be expected to improve and give way to a more powerful system

you just have to give things like this time to develop, i mean, computers didn't start off with the 8gb or RAM you usually see in them today and they didn't have all of the options we have today for upgrades. but as time went on the technology improved and we ended up with the machines we have not

so i really don't see why you're raining on the parade by saying things like "oh it looks bulky" and "oh it's probably going to be stuff"
yeah it may be stuff to begin with but i'm sure that as the technology improves it'll get slimmer and more powerful

Does this mean that I can get a cutting-edge phone without paying for things I don't need?

why
maybe

Does this mean that I can get a cutting-edge phone without paying for things I don't need?
Pretty much. You could for example get 4 processors, the best screen you could possibly want, a huge battery and nothing else and just have your own little lasts-forever super-fast phone without anything silly like a camera or microphone and such.
