Author Topic: Windows 8 Download Question  (Read 845 times)

So I am going to get Windows 8 really soon, and I was wondering, how exactly does downloading it off Microsoft's work? Does it download the stuff to make a USB booter?

Also, I couldn't seem to figure out how the clean install works if you're not using Windows XP, Vista, or 7. I'm currently using Linux.

When you buy windows 8 off Microsoft's site, it's a .exe that can write a DISC or a USB drive to install.
I just did it recently, workes great

Ok, but what if I don't have a windows computer to do this on?

Edit: Also, how big is the file?

I believe Microsoft provides an ISO for you to burn as well, but it's hidden within some text somewhere.  The file is probably around 7gb, the size of a DVD.

Hmmm... Ok. The last thing I want to do is get this and not be able to install it, so is there anyone who can confirm this?

As long as your hardware is all relatively standard-ish and not extremely old, you should be fine.

I'm not worried about the hardware, it's how I'm going to install it. If I need a Windows computer to put the OS onto a finger drive, then I have a problem. I know my hardware will work, unless Windows 8 is ridiculously stupid.

What Marcem said.

Of course they provide solutions for non-windows users. It's how they get people to switch off of other operating systems.
