I am thinking about sending this to her:
Dear Mrs. --------,
"When plagiarism/cheating is discovered or suspected, there will be immediate intervention by
the teacher. The student will appear before the teacher for a private conference to ascertain the
facts of the situation. Students who have plagiarized may receive a zero for the assignment." - Student Handbook

Acknowledging the fact I like a good B in English, rather than a C or a D (I don't fully understand/acknowledge the weighing system you are going to use), I looked at the handbook and I saw this:
"Students who have plagiarized may receive a zero for the assignment." Keyword being "may". Due to the low severity and ratio of the plagiarized material compared to my own work, the other material in my book report is confidentially credited to my own thoughts. I was thinking that you can kindly review this with the administration as I really don't want to get a zero percentage.

I can still accept the fact of keeping the zero percent, but anything otherwise is acceptable in my terms. Everything is better than a zero.

I got accused of plagiarism just a few weeks ago for a book report in Social Ethics class when I was just quoting stuff from the book but I did not remember to put a citation after each quote I put so I got a 0 on it.

It didn't help me either because I got a 65 on the previous essay in that class because my teacher didn't put any outline online for us to look at so we were all screwed anyways.

Now I've finished my first quarter of my senior year with a D (63) in that class

Anyone else use Turn It In? Yay I hate it too.

she said that it sounded too smart
Seriously? There's no proof that you plagiarized, but she thinks it sounds too smart? Your teacher is loving handicapped.

I wrote down the exact explanation of what Ben Carson did for his operation on the two Siamese twins because I didn't exactly know what the forget he was talking about.

Then I said "dude these notes look good to answer question so and so" so I pasted it into that part.
no it was mine
That's not accidental. in the future, cite your sources.

Examples of plagiarizing according to English teachers:
Harm's favorite food is rice and sausage (Wikipedia).
In his essay, he stated "Harm's favorite food is rice and sausage".

Example of not plagiarizing
According to the text, "Harm's favorite food was bagels and ham." (Wikipedia).

How do you accidently plagiarize something?

By not using citations. It's a pretty easy thing to overlook.

You are allowed to 'plagiarize' in a sense that you give credit to the original writer, otherwise you're just blatantly copying some else's work.

I feel bad for you, hopefully something can be done to raise the grade like an extra thing. I've never plagiarized before, I always try my best to put almost everything into my own words.

your teacher is a douche. if that's all you copied, your grade should not be a 0 just for that. maybe a 90, but not a flat 0. douche teacher.

She's the nicest loving strict teacher I have ever met, lol. On the day we needed to hand it in, my printer at home didn't work so she let me go to the library to print it, even though she said no one could print on that day.

Also, she is just following school rules in the sense "It's the law to give you a 0."
I think it isn't though.

I doubt Abraham Lincoln cares if poorly cite his words. People say stuff without citing all the time.

that's not really plagiarism because you're still providing credit instead of outright stealing the work

because conversations aren't really academic essays that are for a grade
unless it's like, a class debate or something
