They know that they get to do whatever the forget they want because the internet isn't smart enough to collectively move to a new place. We just go where everyone else already is because it's most convenient for us.

On a related note, I already had a Google+ account that I used because all my friends had Google+, so I thought I could link that to my Youtube account but noooo it makes a new Google+ account for my Youtube channel. Now I am constantly alternating between the two accounts and can't combine them in any way.
