Because Bitcoins are virtual. You can hide them on a server somewhere in an encrypted file that nobody can crack if you really want to. I'm not saying it's impossible to have them stolen, but compared to hiding a lump of gold or an art piece or simply tons of cash, bitcoins are easier to secure.
Safety deposit box.  Nobody robs banks anymore, smarter to try houses.  Less risk, fewer panic buttons, better chance of good cash on hand.

I didn't say banks aren't safe. I just said that it's easier to keep virtual things secure while keeping them on-hand than physical assets. You could also keep your laptop with bitcoins on them in the safety deposit box.



$400 stolen? That's a ton! I hope you get it back, I'd be pretty upset if it happened to me too.

I'm confident that I could hide a lump of gold better than trust a virtual solution.
