Author Topic: I'm in big trouble by the HOA  (Read 5746 times)

Gated communities are the dumbest thing ever, what is the point?
What the forget? I don't even live in a gated community and I feel like this is one of the stupidest things I've ever read. What's the point of a safe? What's the point in locking your front door? Why lock your car? Hell, may as well leave your doors open.

-snip-
This was just words on paper sent to the community of England.

Yeah I knew someone was going to pull out the "i'm going to be a smartass" card from their pockets. I'm actually not surprised that it's you, either.

They sent him words on paper that "informed" his community of what he did. Nothing that even has to remotely do with any kind of punishment. It just seems like OP is blowing it way out of proportion and is afraid he will get in trouble or believes a "letter" is "big trouble".

But once again, no body knows what the hell the letter actually says. Everyone here is asking.

The way you put it is as if words on paper never mean anything

Yes, I apologize.

not having black people around???
dood racest!!

i can see why it would be an attractive option for people paranoid about crime. depending on the area, i can see it making sense.
Thats true, didn't think of it that way. Usually people don't get so scared as to having to live in a community with a locked gate.

Those are small things, but going as far as to living in a place thats locked down to anyone on foot, period is kinda pointless. I understand having a safe and locking your doors and such.

I doubt the gated community has no pedestrian entrance, that just wouldn't make sense.

You should be able to at least go through the same gate cars go through.

It's not that it's locked down to anyone on foot, period. His just happens to not have a pedestrian gate, which I agree is dumb. It's to keep people who aren't supposed to be there out, just like a lock on your door. Anyone that's supposed to be there, whether you own a house there or someone who invited you to their house is welcome in, and everyone's welcome to leave. Furthermore, if burglars did get in to the gate and broke into your house, the gate guard could lock the gate to prevent them from leaving and gate cameras would catch their plates.

Its basically just a huge second door to every house, seems kinda pointless aside from what you said about trapping them in.

I've said this multiple times, but I'll bold it to make it obvious: the point of a gated community is to keep people out, not keep people in.

Also, doors can be circumvented. You can break in through a window. A gate that extends around an entire community can not be circumvented by vehicle.

Write a letter back to the HOA appologising, but explaining your predicament in not being able to get out properly, and that you would like some form of pedestrian gate that members can have a key to, or have some sort of sensor card to get through the car gate (as I assume the cars probably have a card/sensor on them to tell the gate that they live there?).

There's no reason why you and the HOA can't be reasonable about it.
I'm sure they would rather you were able to get in and out safely than having to climb through gates and possibly damage them or hurt yourself.

You said yourself that a burglar could break in and then be locked in to get caught, thats what I was referencing.
Maybe not by a vehicle but you don't have to have a vehicle to be a robber. If OP can slip through the gates I'm sure a robber can too.

If OP can slip through the gates I'm sure a robber can too.
ofc op also talked about photo evidence of them going through the gate

If OP can slip through the gates I'm sure a robber can too.

OP obviously didn't "slip by" if the HOA got images of him and sent a notice to the whole neighborhood

I meant slip in the terms of getting through the gate, not by doing it without being caught.

I'm not understanding the part where you are "in big trouble".

They sent typed words on paper at you and your community lol.
"Due to vandalism, we, as an HOA, have incurred over $5000 in service call fees and mechanical replacement costs on our front gates."
They could potentially charge my dad a bunch of money.

But wouldn't a burglar then fail if they're caught, like OP?

Mask exist, if the burglar can make a swift escape and not show his face he won't be caught
