Details on the letter? Did they actually say something was going to be done about you guys?
Yeah
Can we see what was on the notification?

I don't get why you need to be in a car. can't you use a code, key card, talk to the gate person, whatever this community uses?
I mean how would a gate know if you are a car or not, there has to be some interaction of some type to prove you live there. how else could a car go in and out.

just use the same process on foot.

Lol there's a neighborhood near me called...I think Rain Tree.  It has gates on it.  I've seen a Corvette Z06 and a shiny, customized Camaro ZL1 going in there (pretty well off people).  However, it has a curfew where nobody is allowed to leave, period (unless by car of course).  It has passwords on the gates and people who walk around watching.  They even have a tavern and a church outside the gates that no one is allowed to enter unless they live in that particular neighborhood.

who really gives a stuff if everyone knows you opened a gate don't let them know you're scared. You wouldn't be in any trouble. Seems like they're idiotic for not having any pedestrian gates.

Gated communities are the dumbest thing ever, what is the point?

Uh, you'd be surprised how serious "words on paper" can be.

OP didn't provide any details about said paper and only decided to say it told "about him and his friends".

So i'm going to go out on a gigantic limb here and guess it was just notifying everyone that stupid kids are walking around and forcing the gate open.

It's not like he got a letter that had a gigantic fine, said that he was getting sued, or any other extent or definition of "trouble" you or I can think of. If this is the case, however, it's his fault for leaving out such mammoth details.

The "words on paper" are of no value to be worrying about unless they actually decided to follow up with punishment.

"thanks for buying this house, one thing though... if you don't own a car you aren't allowed to leave. ever."

not having black people around???

OP is probably just scared something's gonna happen simply cause there was a notice about them

I'm not understanding the part where you are "in big trouble".

They sent typed words on paper at you and your community lol.

This was just words on paper sent to the community of England.

The way you put it is as if words on paper never mean anything

i can see why it would be an attractive option for people paranoid about crime. depending on the area, i can see it making sense.

Fear of the outside or excessive egotism.  Both not worth jack diddly as far as I can see.  Fear dissolved by a good electric fence of your own, egoism by interaction.

I agree it's dumb not to have any kind of pedestrian gate.

Question:
Instead, why not get together with friends at some other location (eg right outside the gate or at one of their houses/apartments) and get someone to give you a ride home so that the gates will let you pass?  Throwing it out there.
