Author Topic: Please stop using adblock plus  (Read 2705 times)

It's become very noticeable to me (who doesn't use adblock) that Google has significantly increased their advertising. The only reason I can really think of is that so many people are using adblock, that they need to forget with everybody else just to break on their revenue. I mean, Ad Block is great for navigating the Washington Post without accidentally clicking on "the best way to learn a new language FREE", but whenever I want to watch a Youtube video, 90% of the time I will watch an ad beforehand. This wasn't the case two years ago. You can't abuse a free service by cutting off their one source of revenue. I understand that ads aren't awesome, but the occasional ad is nothing to stuff yourself about.

I would stop using adblock on youtube if they stopped playing ads before videos and instead show them on the side like they used to.

instead of forcing more ads just do that and everything is saved
don't enforce a broken model just go make something else

wait what

i didn't even know adblock stopped ads on youtube until not too long ago.

seems really weird, on sites like Hulu if you block the ad it makes you stare at a blank screen for 5 minutes. on youtube you wouldn't even know that ads were being skipped unless someone told you

Adblock also hurts many sites, advertisements bring in revenues for a huge amount of sites, and some people live on the money they get from their sites. I am not using Adblock, and I will never use it. I don't mind watching 5-20 second ad's.

I wouldnt use it if there were no prerolls

doesn't youtube have that assholic ad before you can watch your video
hate that

the question is, how do we make a change

Google needs to stop trying with stuff that is obviously not working instead of shoving it down everybody's asses pretending it's flawless

Also, why the forget does it matter if we "hurt google's revenue" i think they have enough loving money as it is. why do they need ads in the first place.

Almost all of Google's revenue comes from ads. Stop talking.

i would totally unblock all ads on youtube if they weren't forced on you when you just want to watch a video

wait what
im just saying youtube/google should do ads in a different way then forcing it up our ass

I would stop using adblock if I was able to actually select what interests you instead of Google making it's own filter bubbles and one point giving you ads about how to grow your snake.
I don't care of ads about games that I like, /any/ video, /any/ product, or pretty much anything. If I could receive a new ad for a brand new game I never received a ad before for, that would be the only thing that could possibly interest me. I don't watch movies, and I don't give a jack stuff about anything else that ads could possibly offer. Additionally if I am able to hurt Google by simply using Adblock (me out of the sereval billions of users), I am glad to do so. Not to mention that Adblock comes useful when it comes to Win an Ipad or anything phishing and scams, which cover up most of the ads on plenty of sites.
