Also contrary to popular belief; defense lawyers are not concerned with the truth, but actually trying to convince the jury that they are right and to make the prosecution look bad.  The district attorney is tasked with upholding the truth and deciding whether or not to go forward with the case.

you can't go to jail for having marijuana? it's a misdemeanor in most countries and you get fined + maybe put in custody for an hour or two.
