Author Topic: Should I get the new version of the PS3?  (Read 1505 times)

I have the original "fat" version from 2006, bought it from a friend. My question is what are the advantages of getting the newer, slimmer ones?

No backwards compatibility.

i don't mind people telling me to use google, but that "lmgtfy" thing is kind of starfish-ish. i tried googling btw.

No backwards compatibility.

what does this mean?

All they did was some cost-cutting measures in production, making it effectively a downgrade.

I wouldn't bother with it.

assuming it means you can't play PS1 or PS2 games on the Slim because of some forgeted up production cuts

i also heard from a friend the older version has a better chance of failing.

My PS3 is starting to get "old".  Still fun, but it's starting to run slow, freezes every now and then, and won't pick up my mobile hotspot signal like 20% of the time.

maybe it's just your unit, mine never freezes except the occasional lag on explosions on some games. i stay connected all the time and never drops. maybe you just have a weak signal.

He's asking the forum for opinions.
That's not really an issue

Possible, but my hotspot gets a constant 4G signal all the time.  I got my PS3 unopened, but not brand new for my 15th birthday.

i don't know much about wireless connections, but isn't 4g a phone connection? pretty bad imo.

Typing this from my PS3 now, and yeah it might be phone, but I use it for the computer as a permanent wifi connection.
