Author Topic: POV of climbing a 1,768 foot high transmission tower.  (Read 3650 times)

I love watching these kind of videos, they're so awesome.

Probably.
To fit a lift in that could hold two people, the top would likely have to be much wider than it is already.
Which would be a lot more material in building the tower.
And while I don't know the science behind these towers, I imagine there's a perfectly good reason why they are thin at the top.

Also, you'd need space for the lift mechanism at the top, and the top would have to take the strain of pulling up the lift. And as the top is the smallest part, it's weaker too.

And if there was a malfunction with the lift at the top, it would probably be much much more difficult to get people up to fix it.
Or the elevator maintains an absolute size all the way to the top instead of completely conforming to the towers dimensions and there would be a catawalk that extends from the elevator to the location in need of repairs. No need to worry about lift malfunctions. As stated the tower already has a lift so if it malfunctions there's someone out there already who can fix it.

So really its none of those things, it would just be really expensive like we agreed upon.

Why are you guys freaking out over this video? That's like being afraid of heights in an airplane - just doesn't really happen.

if you don't get a slight uneasy feeling while in an airplane than something is like wrong with your body

Sitting in the comfort of an enclosed airplane =/= climbing up a tiny ladder unsecured.

If I felt uneasy it would probably because there's a 1/90000 chance the plane crashes - not because I'm high up. The ground is so distorted when I'm that high it just doesn't bother me.

It's like asking why someone has claustrophobia. They just do.

Have you ever flown in a plane that runs with pedals or some other things that make the odds of falling down under 1/2?

Anyways, its freaky how you can see the roundness of the earth from up there.

The ground near the tower is closer to the camera than the ground further from the tower.

I've flown in a Cessna 152 many times with my father as the pilot. Except for maneuvers, it's exactly like sitting in a very loud car that can't be stationary.
Anyway, here are some ways you can die in an airplane. HAPPY READING! >:D

CarAirplane
Out of FuelYou slowly roll to a stop. You glide towards the ground.
Flat TireYou go to the nearest tire store. You continue flying unhindered. Landing is a bit bumpy.
Below-Freezing CloudsHow can you tell? The control surfaces quickly get covered in ice. The aerodynamics of the plane are ruined, you crash.
Missing WingWait, what? How?You never leave the ground. If you have already left the ground, you very quickly go back to it.
Missing ControllerOh stuff.Oh stuff.
Traffic CollisionBoth vehicles quickly come to a stop.MID-AIR COLLISIONS ARE VERY RARE. But if it happens, both vehicles quickly come to a stop. And then start moving again. And then quickly come to a stop again.

Logical motherforgeters do not like to be up high.

Crazy motherforgeters do.

I was looking at the wrong tower in the video. Tower's actually 1,768 feet high.

Getting down from that tower must be the worst part o:

I'm sure they're trained professionals; they wouldn't just let any crazy dude go climbing up their tower
