The skeleton groans while it slowly walks towards you raising his axe in anticipation.
wreck that little pusillanimous individual bitch
You swing your blade at the wretch, who clumsily raises his shield to block the blow. Your blade crunches into the shield, breaking the rotten wood into pieces.
How long had this skeleton been in this forest? You wonder.

However, there is no time for wondering as the skeleton advances.

Uh, try and kite him?
You back up slowly, realizing that this skeleton has severely impaired movement, as you can easily move quicker than it just by walking.
You pick up a rock from the ground and throw it at the beast, which crunches on his rotten skull leaving a large crater. The skeleton looks disoriented as you ram it with your shield. The skeleton crumbles into a pile of bones on the floor.

After we kill him, let's loot his axe! Blunt>Blade any day.
You begin to reach for the axe when you realize how old and bad shape it is in.

Amongst the bones you find an odd glowing gem.

The gem seems to pull towards the mountain almost as if a magnetic attraction was doing so

You look up the sky as the sun finally dips below the horizon almost instantly bathing you in darkness. You are tired from your long day of traveling.

We can still take the axe to repair it or use it for spare metal.

Camp!
You decide to rest for the night. But you are tormented by haunting dreams of a terrible demon.

Unknown Demon

You continue on through the forest carefully in the morning. Up ahead you begin to hear the noise of rushing water. You smile as you feel for your near empty waterskin when you hear something else beneath the roar of the rapids.

You advance slowly when you see it.

Standing on the other side of the river a skeleton in dark black robes holding a staff which pulsates with red energy much like its crimson eyes chants loudly in a language unknown to you.

Necromancer

The Necromancer steps back as several skeletons rise from the ground in front it. It was resurrecting them!

Skeletal Mob

The Necromancer seems to signal something to the group and continues on towards the mountain, it moves as though it is floating just above the ground.

This could be the cause of the smoke from the mountain! You had to investigate.

The pack of skeletons hasn't seen you yet but you had to cross the river. Near you there is a tree, a fallen log, and what appears to be a bundle of rope and fishing net.

how wide is the river? will the log be long enough to lay across it or can we just jump?

I would lay low until they just kinda leave and then do a bit of fishing so that you have something to eat later.

Kill them and then loot 'em. Spare the necromancer unless he attacks us.

Skeletal Mob

The group of skeletons wanders around near the edge of the river while you stealthily approach through the tall brush surrounding its bank.

An old rotten and dead tree sits next to the water stretching far into the bright midday sky. You see how bad of shape it is in and decide you could, with minimal effort, push it over to create a bridge to the other side of the river but the group of skeletons would surely hear you.

You remember how slow the first skeleton you faced was and decide to go ahead and push the tree over.

As you push the tree you hear the rotten bark squish and then a loud crack followed by smaller cracks as the dry inner wood breaks under the weight of its decomposed outside.

The tree lands with a thud on the opposite bank, the group of skeletons notice immediately and begin to make their way over.

You waste no time and make your way over the log bridge to the other side and slide off onto the opposite bank.

The group of skeletons are still a good hundred meters away down the bank and the tall grass and thicket behind you could offer a good hiding spot. However, you could also make a stand and not have to deal with them again, although it would be risky.

start cutting the wood until it's too weak to support the skeletons

Skeletal Mob

The skeletal mob continues towards you now only fifty meters away, the skeleton archer fires off an arrow which is lost in the brush to your left.

start cutting the wood until it's too weak to support the skeletons

You have a plan and decide to take a stand, you quickly pull yourself up onto the mossy log, carefully making your way to the middle where strong rapids flow powerfully underneath.

Making sure not to slip and fall you slam your sword into the rotten wood, weakening the already weakened wood with each swing. Suddenly, another arrow slams into the shield on your back, almost knocking you face first into the water. You decide you've been up here long enough and crouch walk to the opposite bank.

You watch in anticipation as the skeletons clumsily make their way onto the disgusting log and begin to come towards you.

The skeleton archer attempts to fire another arrow but clumsily slips on the moss and lands on its back in the middle of the log.

This is enough to break the rubbery wood as it dips low enough to be pulled further by the strong current. The skeletons are thrown into the air by the force of the log and are then torn to pieces by the rocks in the river.

The pack of skeletons had been dealt with, but now you were back on the wrong side of the river. Sitting around you see the bundle of rope and the old fishing net.

You look above you, a strong branch of a tree adjacent to the river hangs over the water.
