I've had my phone drop before glass flat on the pavement a few times and picked it up without any cracks or scratches.
iPhones and other phones with glass screens have weaknesses in certain areas where if they said phone is dropped and lands on said area the glass will shatter.if said phone lands fully facing down, the glass takes up the force from the impact and probably won't break.

While the first statement makes sense, wouldn't it be if the glass is one of the first objects to absorb the shock of the impact, that there be any notable damage?
