Author Topic: My Cat Has Been Put Down  (Read 2914 times)

Well, i hate to use this place as a blog, so i will lock this topic around tomorrow afternoon.
Tom earlier last year.

So, my cat who is named Tom is 16 years old. He has been with me since i was born and i've cared for him and loved him all these years. Of course i didn't take care of him as a babby, but of course there were many kitten hugs to be had.

Over the years he went from cynical to relaxed to completely gone. I've loved him no matter what he did all of these years because he's just a cat and there's nothing wrong with loving up furniture or having the occasional mess around the house.

And so here it is, his 17th year of his long life and it's coming to a sad end. He is ill constantly, he can't control where he poops and pees, his skin is dry and is falling off of him and he lost 5 pounds.

He knows he's ill and his mind has set him completely back to kitten. Right now he just sits in the basement so he doesn't make messes around the house, not because we put him there, because he knows what he's doing wrong.

I really can't think of what i'll do without him, he has been there all these years and has always been my friend.

I can't help but tear up when i'm writing this because i really don't want him to go, but we can't afford to give him medical assistance and he's just too old to save in his condition.

I'm just really devastated right now.
I'm really going to miss him. ;^;

17 years?
My cat lived that long and died on his birthday

take some funny stuff to cheer you up

that must be some sad stuff :(

RIP tom, I never knew him, but he seems like a cool cat.

aww, that sucks
its really hard to see a pet suffering and knowing that their time is up
my dog got super sick last year after struggling with something in his leg since february of that year and it hurt so much to see him throwing up and refusing to eat anything but the occasional ice cube
just know that humanely ending their suffering is the best thing you could do for them and that they'd at least go out knowing they had loving owners

Late last year we had to put down my 12 year old dog. Jerry.
He had a stroke right in front of me and his legs stopped working, he knew it was his time and accepted it. I really loved him too. ;~;

I am not a cat guy, but this post makes me tear up a lot. Just look at that innocent cat.. It is sad how a close friend and companion can deteriorate so fast physically. My sympathies, I hope you feel better Vincent, and to your cat: I hope it rests well.

The longest I've ever had a cat was four years before it got ran over and died. Four years, and I was still sad as hell. Can't even imagine being attached to an animal since I was born and losing it like that. My condolences.

I had to put my cat down in the summer. She was almost 18.
Edit: I had been with her since I was loving born.
All my feels, mate.

My cat is getting older, she may die in about 5 years I'd say.
My dog died earlier this year , she had nasal cancer. I know what it's like to lose a lifelong companion like that.
I hope it rests well. As for you, I hope you end up feeling better.

Darn, sorry to hear that.
I have personally never owned a cat, but I have owned dogs before. I've had to put them down, and I've known them since I was born.
Hope you feel better soon.

; ;

he looks like my cat oliver too

I have a really old cat as well. I dread the day when she has to be put down.
