My dog had something around her neck for maybe 2 days

it was like a scrungie thing and she was scratching it for maybe 2 - 5 days.

We removed it, and there are red marks around her neck. She is a very small dog (chihuahua terrier).

should we take her to the vet?

I recommend taking her to the vet, it could be a serious tick bite or a growing tumor of some sort. I'd be careful.

I doubt it would be a tick but she was running in circles all day and scratching her neck and my dad just got it off her about 20 minutes ago

I think the red marks are her nails because she has very long nails (we haven't trimmed them in a while)

Give her a shower, wait a day to see if the marks go away. It could be just a simple irritation. If it's still there after 2 days and still scratching yeah take her to the vet.

I think it was covered by her collar and yes we did take her collar off
