No. There is a set amount of bitcoins, that's why they are so expensive at the moment, and will continue to increase in value. Its basically a giant continent of data that is being mined/decoded by a bunch of people.

Because so far the only way I've seen to buy them is sending a wire transfer to some no name exchange. In order to buy them from mt.gox you have to submit a lot of private information to some company without any accountability.

Physical currencies have to be made out of material that is cheap. Losing money to make money makes no sense.
