If you're using Chrome, there's an option in settings for the default search engine.

most of the time when a program forces it's way to your default brower it disables this option.

Most browser hijackers are extensions installed by outside programs. Just delete it from your extensions list.

Its easier to just do it manually. Even quick-scans take like five minutes. If you're in chrome just go to chrome://extensions/ and delete it from the list.

They also usually install stuff into your Registry, enjoy cleaning that up manually ...
