I read this whole spear argument, and you guys forgot one critical thing.

If there is more than one person coming at you, and you only have ONE spear, you'll sure as heck be killed before you can retrieve it and kill the other who knows how many people.

even if I had a list of ten things to take, not one would be a weapon. maybe a knife because that's kind of necessary for stuff, but I wouldn't use it to kill anybody
judging by the way OP approaches bows and arrows, you can't pick a first aid kit. so if only one thing, probably something antiseptic or a knife
