Author Topic: Just came back after a hiatus, and I'm lost.  (Read 2424 times)

So, I bought Blockland in '07. Played for a loong time. Made friends and all that such stuff. Took a break in 2009, and came back at the beginning of 2010. I then took a break shortly after that and here I am today. But this thread is mainly to help myself understand a few changes that have been made since then.

First and foremost, I've come to learn that maps were almost completely discarded to make way for shaders. As a veteran of BL I can tell you that some of my funnest times were on Slopes and the like. So believe me when I say I'm not exactly sure why they were done away with. I'm not dissing on the update (from what I know this happened a long time ago) but I just want to understand why it was done.

The second thing is I see that Blockland is trying to be greenlighted which I think is great. I'm just not 100% sure how that would work properly. What would be done about keys?

That's pretty much all that I have questions about, so if anyone's got answers to help ease my mind that'd be wonderful.

Welcome back.

Badspot has already said we won't have a problem with keys when on steam.

Maps (oh god not again) were removed because they were an old feature that pretty much looked terrible, and slowed down updates. They were removed for faster updates and for really cool shadows and shaders.

Hope you enjoy your stay back.

EDIT:

Q: Will I have to buy the game again?
A: No.  Your current Blockland key will work on steam (assuming this is possible, which it should be).

Q: Will I get to keep my BLID if Blockland gets on steam?
A: Yes

Q: I don't like steam.  Will I have to use steam?
A: No, you will not have to use steam.  This will be an additional way for people to get the game, not a replacement.
Just in case you have any questions regarding Steam, this is most of what we know.

Ah. I understand now. I personally like the shaders and stuff, but I was confused on how environment blandness and possible fatigue due to a lack in venue would be prevented.

Also, I love steam so I've got no problems with that; I was just wondering how it would work.

Haha. welcome back, my old friend.

Basically, we've had a ton of revision updates to the game, on August 9th, of last year the game was updated to V21, which caused crashing problems.
And later on was fixed, v21 took away maps because they were apparentall-

That explains that.
Anyway, we got onto steam greenlight in sept of last year, and got greenlit a few months ago(? i think).
We're almost to steam.

Nice to see people returning from hiatus'.

Oh god. It's been so long. And you're still active. I figured all my old friends stopped playing. I wish I could remember everyone I used to play with's name. I remember a few like PressMe and LegoDude, and like two others. Good times.

I remember PressMe, he stopped playing about a year ago I think.

Yeah the last time I played with him was like two or three years ago. I remember being one of the few super admins he had when he hosted servers. I had the most fun on his freebuilds.

We're all lost! Hah! Kidding, but welcome back! A lot has changed as you can see, and when we are fully on Steam - keys will still stay the same and belong to their original owners. I know that there will also be a few Blockland trading cards on Steam too.

Do you mean me, or someone with a similar name?

I don't even remember, did you ever host freebuilds?

Nope, still here.

Nope, so it was probably someone else then

Oh well, welcome back anyway
