Author Topic: Hernia repair surgery tomorrow, tips?  (Read 1375 times)

Going in for hernia repair surgery tomorrow morning. Pretty much everybody on my dad's side of the family has had it done at least once and they've turned out fine so I'm not too worried, and I'll be glad to finally have this whole thing done with, but I still don't know what exactly to expect. Any tips for recovery? I'm gonna need something to do that won't put a whole lot of stress on my gut. No idea what kind of meds I'll be on yet.

You should probably just relax if you don't want to hurt your balls.

don't twist it.

In all seriousness, it's not that bad, but you need to walk after the first 2 days after surgery (Aside from going to the bathroom). Your legs will be VERY weak and you will need to regain their strength.

Clear your schedule for the next two and a half weeks.

Make sure to rest and move slowly.

Have some movies ready.

Drink a lot of water or whatever kids drink these days.

Back from the hospital. So full of pain meds right now that I hardly feel anything. I can stand up without a problem and walk slowly with somebody to lean on, and even sit down and get back up without much of a problem if I'm careful about it. Still pretty groggy from the anesthesia but not nearly as bad as it was when I first woke up... Checking another forum I noticed I'd written this from my phone while in the car driving home just an hour and a half or so after waking up:

The incision is small and clean, and sealed with some sort of really powerful medical glue. I actually had more pain from the removal of the IV near my wrist/hand than the actual area where they cut me open - the tape used to keep the IV in place caught a good amount of arm hair when it was pulled off...

So I'm gonna take it easy for a while, maybe play Blockland a bit or work on my game or something when I'm not up and about. Walking actually seems to have helped a lot so far.

I had a hernia surgery before when I was like, 8. Was super quick and didn't feel all forgeted afterwards.

Dude, I had to like split my legs and walk and hold my balls because they would bounce everywhere.

our cat had a hernia, her intestines where hanging out.
