Using a Delivery Van that can deliver multiple packages in the same area without the risk of getting shot down by people or nature> Spending a lot of a money on a drone that can only deliver one package that can only deliver one package at a time and could be brought down.
As I said - convenience. It is totally up to the buyer whether or not they want to take the risk, and really, getting it there in 30 minutes could come in handy when you need something quickly.

Nowhere did they suggest that they were getting rid of the trucks, so there is really no point in saying the trucks are better. This is simply another option. Don't like it? Then don't use it.

the budget for the DOD in 2012 was like $500,000,000,000
compared to amazon's entire profit that year of $7,000,000
these little things aren't gonna come remotely close to military grade
and I never said they were a small company either, but compared to the united states military, they're pretty tiny
Because the United States Department Of Defense uses all $680,000,000,000 of their budget on drones.

did I say that? I don't think I said that, nor anything at all similar. strange...

why are you all assuming they will just be shot down or stolen.
how is it really any different then robbing a mailman or stealing from someones mailbox?

it will be even less likely because it will be near impossible to get away with it.
you all sound like batty old woman with your quick immature assumptions about technology and modern things.

i wouldn't say it would be impossible to get away with it. It would just be unearthly hard and could land you a few years in jail if you failed.

I doubt youre going to be jailed for a few years for just shooting down a drone. a really giant fine and a lawsuit, but not jail lol

it's a federal offense to attempt or succeed at infiltrating people's mail. this will be no different.

I still don't think that applies to anything but the USPS

this is amazing, but what if the quadcopter cant access the front door? like what if there are trees?
and is it gps-controlled, or is someone controlling it?
edit: im probably going to buy something just to watch the quadcopter

people could shoot them down for fun.

why do people keep saying that people are going to shoot it down?
You dont shoot rc planes down, do you?

First delivery to the ghetto, tell me how it goes.

What if I bought an rc plane or helicopter and smashed into it in a mid air collision?

What if it hit a UFO or an invisible wall programmed by bethesda?

I doubt anyone in the ghetto can afford Amazon Prime.

A lot of you forget this isn't a completely public service. It's Amazon Prime Air, which is a "discount" service provided by Amazon that removes most taxes, has free two day shipping, and low prices; it has a yearly fee. You're not gonna get some random Joe Schmoe using this service considering most of you didn't realize it was a Prime service or knew what it even was, much less a welfare recipient using it.
