Author Topic: Is this a good desktop?  (Read 964 times)

Before I get into the details, yes, I know this can be posted in the computer Megathread. However, it is harder to get a response there, and this is an urgent question.

I was trying to get a Cyberpower Laptop but my parents said it is too much and I'd probably only use it for gaming (understandable). They wanted me to A.) get a desktop and B.) have it be under $1000. I am not willing to build a computer because I don't even have the time to do so and don't even know where to start.

After a little bit of searching, I did find this computer. Would you guys think this would be a good purchase for a desktop that I can still use for gaming and editing videos? I saw it has 10 GBs of RAM and Radeon HD 8670D GPU.
What do you guys think?

You have a budget up to $1000, and you go for a $500 one?

What will you be using this for?

you can play games at medium settings with about 30 fps on that GPU

The other ones I was seeing all had like intel integrated graphics
I'll be using it for video editing and a little gaming too. Nothing too hardcore

$200 off right now. It'll fit you nicely.

If you need more RAM, it's a cheap upgrade.

I would get a laptop from http://blinq.com, I got mine for $300 original price was $600. I was like :O, and this laptop supports almost anything (obviously not crysis 3 :P)

But seriously it has good deals check it out before buying the newegg product

This site needs to sort some bull stuff out.

This price better be a joke. I wouldn't spend more then $300 on this piece of stuff.

their prices are fair. how about you do a google search on that laptop and look at its average pricing?

I did forget to mention one thing in the OP; the whole budget thing is basically the budget for my Christmas gifts. I am wanting to get other stuff for Christmas too, and I was hoping to get a pretty awesome monitor with the PC posted in the OP

I do have one question about it though; would you guys say it's easily upgradable? If not... How upgradeable?

that case is small as forget, if you wanted to get a normal sized gpu you'd have to get a different case later on. the PSU is almost scarily low wattage too

So what would the issue be with the PSU? Is it basically a problem of not providing enough power to the tower? Because if that's it I would guess there's a way to modify that

Holy stuff...
How is this thing worth so much? Just because it's a table and a laptop?

Well, you'll be stuck with a 300w power supply. If you want a good video card you'll want to upgrade. The processor would be something good to upgrade. I highly recommend going with something different than the one you posted though.

This leaves room for a monitor, how about this?

EDIT: Checked the price. If you bought this one now, you'd save 60 or so bucks after upgrading the one in OP to the exact same card, and a fairly cheap 500w PSU.

you'd have to buy a better PSU with a higher wattage if you wanted a more demanding GPU
