Author Topic: My friend wants to get a GED  (Read 2658 times)

That's why I went ahead and decided to work at McDonald's for a bit longer so I could have some background for my next job. I'm still hesitant to get another after how McDonald's treated me, though. lol

minimum wage jobs suck ass. suck it up and work until you can climb higher on the ladder.

encourage him to keep going. When you get out of highschool its gr8

smash him over the head with a guitar and keep him chloroformed until graduation day.

if he's really arrogant and wont listen to what you say, then talk to his parents, or his drill sergeant, or someone he respects. if he goes through with this GED he will be throwing away a huge portion of his life.

I worked there for another two months after telling my parents "I'm going to quit today." xD

The next job I get will not be fast food or food of any sort unless I get tips. Never again. LOL

If that's really how he reacted, then you need to let him learn for himself how his decisions are going to affect his life.

I know that doesn't sound like much, but when people are excessively obstinate, you just have to let them be.

I agree, though. I think it's something he should learn for himself -- that he's not always right and should listen to his "stupid" friend for once. lol

tips are great but if you get tipped over a certain amount they take it out of your pay for that week

so just try and pretend that you never ever get tipped and you'll actually get to keep the money you've earned

Yeah, I wouldn't go around bragging that I got some sort of tip. Restaurants can be really greedy. :p

Jesus christ, you're acting like his life would be over if he got a GED, lol. Most employers don't give a forget if you have a highschool degree or a GED, as long as you have something verifying that you're not a dumbforget. Maybe for like, your first job it could in theory be an issue. They might be like, "this guy's got no experience and didn't even go to highschool, nope." Sure. Once he gets a first job though, at the second job they'll be like "Education? Guess he's got that, let's call up his previous employer and ask about him." The difference between a highschool diploma and a GED is not a deciding factor in any jobs that aren't bottom-rung.
