Could happen when you are practicing and get hit in the wrong way. I got my hip dislocated once somewhat like that. Didn't need surgery though.

Yeah but I'd imagine it'd take a hell of a lot of force to break off part of your femur.

i sliced my head open partially when a log came crashing down on my head and that's really the greatest injure i've ever had. no stitches were needed, the thing bled for three hours, slowed down, stopped, and the whole thing pieced itself back together.

otherwise no i've never come close to breaking a bone nor have i ever needed to go to a hospital.
