It's only considered not ok and richardish from the perspective of the person getting it rubbed in their face because something awesome didn't happen to them, aka jealousy.

Keep in mind it's not just his rubbing it in people's face that is annoying.  He is just a richard in General and is just unpleasant to be around.  I couldn't stand him even when I had no idea about his castle being used for blocklands cover art on steam.
