Author Topic: My mom keeps disconnecting the internet for no reason  (Read 5008 times)

So ever since I built my new computer my mom has been disconnecting the internet every night. Now this has pissed me off all the time but now she is keeping it disconnected the whole time because she thinks I am on it too much. Now I am well aware that I go on the computer too much but considering the weather we have and the fact that I live in the middle of loving nowhere there isn't much else to do. Another reason is that I want to get in as much time on it as I can before she disables the internet. I told if she took away the whole disabling the internet in general I wouldn't be on it as much since I wouldn't have to worry about my time ticking away. But she refuses and makes up bullstuff excuses like how I am late for school (which is because she wakes me up at 8:30, we live 20 minutes away from the school so there is no way in hell I could get there in time, I also oversleep at that time), and that I don't do anything else (again, I live in the middle of nowhere and I want to get time in before my stuff gets taken away). She wants me to be on a strict time frame and only for an hour a day (Which is bullstuff. I'm 16, the only way I can contact my friends is via the internet, and this whole time frame bullstuff is what makes me go on it for so long in the first place because I want to get in as much time as possible before my freedom is taken away from me.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could put some logic through her head and get her to keep the internet on?

beachbum if you do not remember this post you made I will never forgive you

My mom is the same way, only not as extreme (she doesn't disconnect the severely limited Internet, @ 16GB/month).  I get an hour of video game time per day (and usually this includes school and stuff, because it is still a screen), but she doesn't have any problem with TV, which I really don't watch much.  I also live in the middle of nowhere, with five miles to the nearest civilized work opportunities (only like three at that distance).

I'm with you partially, and with your mom. I think she's doing this for your own good. My parents were about to disconnect our Internet since I was pretty addicted at one point, and my brother was too. Now I controlled my addiction and thought about how much of a life-waster it was, and trained myself to stop over the summer. I'm now performing much better in school, happier, and feel much better. I live in a really huge city though, so there is a ton to do here. Winnipeg is still a relatively large city, and there is stuff to do I think but with 1 degrees, the average person would stay indoors. I hope you can sort things out with your mom! My regards.

Oh, living with your parents...

Move out, buy a GTX Titan, 100mbps connection, a newer model year Audi, and cry profusely as all your money sinks away into rent for your landlord's equity in their new mansion or the banks with their interest rate of 3%.

Oh, and college tuition and paying for your parents living expenses too.

Try applying for emancipation under "social apathy". The judge will either sympathize or simply request you to "cry some moar".

Speaking of addiction, cocaine is one hell of a drug.

I live 2 hours away from winnipeg in a town with about 100 people. Luckily I got her to try what I said to see if it works now.

Is the setting in the router?

Is the setting in the router?
Most routers have a parental shutdown thing. Knowing how his mother is probably handicapped, he could probably go turn it off really easily.

She disconnects it from the plugin in her room.

Also she went full handicap and disabled the internet again because she thought when I made the deal that I would go on at 8:30. More bullstuff excuses.

Threaten emancipation if you can legally do it where you live.

My parents used to do the same stuff and still do on raaaaaaare occasions. But they know I have absolutely no life and friends and whatnot so they stopped doing it a year or so ago.

(Unless they get mad, then they threaten to do it again and then I tell them that I have one year left before I can move out.)

I was being facetious, but if public ridicule is your thing then go right ahead.
