Author Topic: Blockland simply won't open through Steam.  (Read 2576 times)

I click on Play, and Blockland just doesn't open. I am on my Laptop when I do this. Console attached.

interestingly, it stops exactly at the part where it makes the gui

how long have you spent waiting for it?

A long time. (A few minutes)

1: open notepad
2: type in trace(1);
3: save as "main.cs" in C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Blockland/config (I don't recall the specifics, but there's a drop down menu for save as "text" or save as "all" or something. set that to all)

run blockland again, wait about 30 seconds, then close it.

upload the log file here if it's small enough, otherwise toss it onto some file sharing website

that one looks promising. i don't really have a preference.

oh, and once we get this fixed you're going to have to delete the main.cs you just made. it'll lag your blockland something fierce

i dont see a config folder but there is another main.cs in the base folder

Notice how there is a Syntax error on line 20 (during the initialization of the game), uninstall and reinstall or pm Badspot.

No, that happens for everyone. Whatever it is, it doesn't break the game starting.

i did notice this, but i doubt it'll be the problem.

mmm that's not quite right
make a config folder and then follow the instructions i said

Hmm, didn't know that it does it for everyone. Pretty crappy to have a syntax error in the game itself.

still wont start, went to look for console log after the green box around my steam avatar turned blue.

well stuff, that wasn't very helpful.
nice job getting it right on the first try though, i appreciate intelligent people

uh.... have you tried reinstalling? how about rebooting the laptop? both of those are mundane solutions to weird problems.

failing those, make sure your graphics drivers are up to date

Notice how OpenAL is supposed to start after OpenGL, and OpenGL won't start at all. Are You sure that You actually have OpenGL drivers installed? It's required to run Blockland. I'm pretty sure it might be that.

openAL is audio

i guess he should probably check if he has opengl but i don't even know what to look for. i'm pretty sure it isn't a "driver" but it's not exactly a standalone program either.

I nicely know that OpenAL is audio, but that doesn't really count now, it just should run after OpenGL extensions and after messaging driver version. It didn't do any of those and loaded OpenAL.

He should look for newest graphics card driver, if He's graphics card supports OpenGL, it will be completely installed with newest graphics card driver. For instance, i'm using ATI Mobility Radeon 4300, and i've used this tool to install right drivers. For other graphics cards it might be way harder than using autodetect tool.
