dam rite

yes bad mpg but speed?  Yeah that's why they all came with big V8s straight from the factory so that they wouldn't be slow.  Back then a muscle car with a V6 didn't exist like it does today.  All muscle cars had a V8.  And the 454 used in the SS Chevelle is one of the most powerful stock engines they made.  My dad said that people used to run them stock in their race cars out at our dirt track,  but since they became so rare they had to put cubic inch limitations so now everybody just uses built up 350 engines.

When you hear that V8 rumble mpg and the environment become the last things you think about.
A 350 cubic inch engine is a 5.7 liter engine that he admits to making 150 horsepower. My Nissan 370z has a 3.7 liter v6 engine and makes more than double the horsepower of this car at 332 while weighing less. The GT-R has a 3.8 liter v6 engine that pumps out 543 horsepower. This car is slow.

At the same time, this is not meant to offend the OP. I like the car for what it is, and with some engine work it could be a hell of a lot faster. Congrats on the wheels.

I said 175 lol 4 barrel carb. But yes I talked to mein dad and we are building up the engine instead of putting a 454 in it. I myself thought it would be a slow car but I was wrong, it just takes a little to get up there. I guess momentum has a key role in that haha.

Haha no worries, nice car to you too. drift it and pick up the bitches

Welcome to the world of 2 seater cars, where you have to pick between 1 bitch or your friend.

the bitch always wins

Congrats! It looks nice, in my opinion. If you keep it for a couple years and it's in better condition - then who knows, but someday this car will be worth a lot more than what you got it for.

OP confirmed for Ryder

It's the one I was looking for whether the almighty Night Fox thinks its a bad decision or not.
I'm not "bashing" any opinions. I haven't said a single thing bad about you or anyone else for thinking it looks good. in fact, I don't think I've said anything derogatory at all in this topic, but I can't quite say the same thing about you
I didn't say it was safer than new cars, just that it was pretty safe. Destroyer made a really good point, but even then, it's still pretty safe.
no, it isn't. in relation to modern cars, it isn't safe at all
does it even have airbags?

keep in mind the age of the car has diminished the power.  Brand new it probably made more than that.  That's also not even mentioning the torque.

Age doesn't diminish power by 75% from what a 5.7 liter engine would make today. Also, we were talking about speed, not force. You can have all the torque in the world and still be slow as stuff. Comparing the technology from a 60s-90s car to the technology in the engine of a car built past 2005 is ridiculous, engines nowadays are stuffloads more efficient at producing power.

Keep in mind however that you also don't know what shape the engine is in and how much abuse it was put through, all you really have is the age.

And yes, I understand how far cars have come.  That car isn't making much more power than my '01 Ford Ranger with a 3.0L V6.  And yes I understand that he has the 4 barrel carb in his which from the factory made 155-175 HP.  Most iterations of the 350 have made much larger amounts of power.  The speed is also determined by the gearing.  You can have all the horsepower and torque in the world and be slow as stuff.

Basically what I am referring to are the versions of the 350 that were more set up for performance, not what is in his El Camino.

The thing is, modern cars are just by nature faster than older cars. It's not like we're at the top of the pyramid now either, cars will proceed to get faster and cars that are lightning fast now like the GT-R will become the norm eventually. The issue with speed isn't that the engine is in disrepair, it's just that it hasn't been designed with latest technology. You can call this car beautiful, and you can build the engine so that it can be fast, but any stock iteration of the 350 from the 70's is much slower than any iteration of a 350 in 2014, and for that matter any sports car of this model year.
