Author Topic: [PC HELP] PC freezing after new RAM  (Read 913 times)

Here's the story: I got some new RAM for Christmas, something I've been wanting for a long time. Here's some info about the model.

CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 1333MHz Dual Channel Proccesor (Supports Intel i7 & i5)

The issue
My PC has begun freezing upon installation of these new RAM sticks. I can't do anything at ALL when it freezes, only restart the PC. I've checked the BIOS, but I haven't been able to find anything RAM related in there. I've turned off one of my 6 cores, as I thought the three items were causing something (It was the 3rd core I shut off, it was shut off by default for some reason). The only times I've actually seen it do this is when I'm playing games or watching YouTube.

The rams probably defective
Run a memtest?

Get some 90%+ Isopropyl Alcohol and clean the ram contacts.

How do I do this? I'm sorry, I'm a bit new to this PC modification type stuff.

EDIT: Wait, Microsoft's website is actually telling me something here, lemme try this.

Also, if you've been waiting for new ram for a long time, why did you get a slow as stuff speed?

I dunno, I'm new to this
Cut me some slack please

Alright, MemTest is done, but no errors were found.

I don't see why considering I put these in right after I unboxed them but I'll try tommorow anyway.

Just because you got it out of a box that doesn't make it always clean.

You have been ripped off you can get this ram for a dollar less:

its also faster.

You should have just downloaded more ram!
ok ever since I used that a couple days ago everyone is using ut

He might be able to overclock it to 1600MHz.

yeah it could be shotty ram. bad ram tends to do that stuff.

also make sure your not trying to overclock em.
or mixing ram types, in case you left older ones still in there as well. (good idea but can cause issues)

I would try using 1 stick at a time. swap them into the first slot and start up and play a game an hour each.
theres a good chance just one of em sucks. return the other

the difference between 1333 and 1600 RAM will not be noticeable, i guarantee you.  if you can notice a difference you're an absolute technophile and should consider help.

what motherboard do you have?  is all of your RAM seated properly and in the right order?
try

and if one of them ends up being bad just call the company up and ask for a replacement.  corsair did that for me when one of my RAM sticks went faulty after a power outage.
