Author Topic: Should I get Ubuntu/a Linux OS?  (Read 2082 times)

I've had Windows 7 for over a year or so, but I feel like it's getting bland. I've seen Linux users, mainly using Ubuntu, as their "better" OS.

The problem is, I don't know if there are other Linux OSes I would get. There are other distros out there, and I'm wondering which one is the best.

I would dual boot, because I really don't want to wipe off all of my crap on my hard drive for a new OS.

Opinions? Help?

i dont think most linux os's can run a lot of games so i wouldnt

Check the linux thread for some info

and honestly it all depends on what you plan on doing on it

No one in their right mind should use Linux for daily use. It's not that type of OS. It's mostly people bragging that they know a lot about computers because we obviously know Linux is for hackers and stuff. They purposely made it difficult as forget to navigate because we all know the harder it is to use something the more of a hacker you are.

forget linux.

Dual boot it if you want to keep windows

Um, no, navigating it is only as difficult as your preferred file browser and desktop environment. Some are harder to use than Windows, and some are easier. People who hardly know anything about computers use OSes like Ubuntu all the time. Don't hate on an operating system just because you don't prefer it.

steam and most of valve's games are on linux as well as plenty of others.

linux mint is great imo.

although if you play lots'o games then there's really no point in shifting to linux. however if you care about free software, then sure.

this is probably the dumbest post about linux ever. its only as difficult to navigate as you make it. don't like the desktop environment? change it to something more functional for yourself

This, pretty much. In my opinion, I favor Linux as a development platform and as an OS in general, but it's far from a good gaming platform, and doesn't have as much compatibility with popular programs.

linux is a better gaming platform because for some reason i can run minecraft better on any distro than i can run it on windows, which is barely :(

Because OpenGL has more support on Linux than it does on Windows.

Minecraft isn't the only game that exists, for the record. But yeah, some games do run faster on linux than on windows for me too, it's just the issue with compatibility, even with wine sometimes.

Linux operating systems aren't meant to be used on a daily desktop-use basis.

Really the only people who do that are people who are too cheap to just buy a copy of Windows or think they're too cool for Windows, which is why you see so many of them.
