Author Topic: Blockland could not detect any suitable display device.  (Read 2126 times)

most likely it couldn't handle the power of the suitable display device!!

I am unable to play Blockland due to Blockland not detecting a suitable display device. It has shamed my computer and its family.
I followed the tutorial on blockland.us (http://blockland.us/driverUpdate/index.html) on how to update drivers, to the extent where the steps were from the days of olden times, and it still did not work. I tried a substitute (http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/) says it detected an Intel product (the graphics chip), but said that it doesn't support my current operating system (listed below). Doth this site jest?

Specifications:

  • Processing Unit: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo T7500
  • Graphics Chip Type: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipmunk Family [Manufacturer: Intel Corp.]
  • DirectX Version: 11
  • OS: Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit

Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You are my only hope.

What's your screen resolution? You can find this through your screen resolution settings in the Control Panel.

As much as that works, an easier way is right clicking on your empty desktop space and selecting "Screen Resolution."

1024 x 768.

also 32-bit and 60Hz

1024 x 768.
There's your problem. Blockland defaults to 1280x720 resolution. At least on the machines that I've started the game on.

horsestuff, it starts at 800x600 then goes up and defaults to whatever you set it to

he's lying

BUT

on the off chance he's on the right track, try looking in the config/client/prefs.cs file for the resolution - it'll be $Pref::Video::res or something, and it shouldn't be hard to spot. make sure the numbers there are LESS than 1024 and 768.

he's lying
2am mistatement, he's not lying, he's wrong

third 2am restatement - his statement is 100% factual and 0% incorrect thanks to this qualifier:
At least on the machines that I've started the game on.
the moral here is
1: his results are not typical
2: do not post when drunk very tired. you'll look like you're drunk.

would it be a problem if blockland isn't detecting OpenGL?

Because you're using the standard Microsoft basic drivers, you receive little to no OpenGL support. Blame them.

blockland doesn't create a config folder until it's first successfully opened
charles here is getting an error message before it opens, so blockland can't open up to the title menu which it has to to create the config folders.
hence we can't do stuff to the starting res
