Author Topic: Lights out for the incandescent lightbulb  (Read 2767 times)

When the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, the year ends -- and so does the ordinary lightbulb.

Jan. 1. marks the end of a seven-year effort to outlaw the ordinary lightbulb, thanks to a 2007 law that raised minimum efficiency standards for traditional incandescent bulbs far beyond what the technology can manage.

rip my ceiling light
god bless

They aren't going anywhere. They are cheaper to buy and produce.

They're going to have to make incandescent bulbs cheaper if they want to do this, considering my family wouldn't be able to afford light bulbs anymore.

I'm gunna set up a network to deal illegal bulbs

I would consider fluorescent bulbs cheaper considering they cost maybe twice as much but last several times longer. People just fear change, even when it's for the better. LED bulbs are a nice alternative too.

incandescent bulbs are about $2 each
CFL bulbs (the spiral ones) are a lot more expensive, about $10 each, but last more than eight times as long, without costing eight times as much
an incandescent bulb lasts 1000 hours, and a CFL lasts about 11,500 (give or take a few hundred)
so, that's actually over ten times as long. at only five to six times the price
not to mention that they cost less to run

also, you have an internet connection. you can afford lightbulbs

Some "white" LEDs emit a purple to blue color temperature, so you should be happy TBD.

That makes no sense. Incandescent is still cheaper and lasts a decent time.

only people who really want instant gratification would buy them knowing that

do you leave the light on 24/7 or something? it will still last longer than an incandescent
