Author Topic: Kerosene heating  (Read 2955 times)

This topic is to discuss the heating of a home using one of those metal beast of a heater known as a kerosene heater. We have one and it has been very troubling, yet very warm.
I keep waking up in the middle of the night to loads of smoke filling the air and soot all over stuff because my uncle keeps lighting it inside.
I have almost been suffocated 2-3 times by that heater, which I am ironicly sitting by right now. ( I'm cold :c)
be damned it hasn't blown up on my yet.
So like, discuss kerosene and heating and such.

i heard it is a delicious beverage

get a wood burning stove.

Get an electric heater.
we have a furnace but it runs the bill up too high and it hardly heats the place up. There's a ton of drafty areas in the wall
get a wood burning stove.

no room for one, this kerosene heater we have takes up enough room as is

Ditch the kerosene heater and get a small wood burning stove.

still no room for firewood. This place doesn't have enough space even for the smallest woodstove that's effective

Just burn the wood without a stove inside your house.

So you don't have a yard or...?

Just burn the wood without a stove inside your house.
This is a good idea.

if you don't have space inside to store wood than you'll end up with unusable wood. You're suppose to stack wood by the stove so it dries completely. Trust me on this, I used to be the one to keep the stove going when we had one at my old home.

We tend to heat our house with the fireplace because the gas bills are pretty expensive. We store our wood outside and it burns fine.

are you not ventilating that motherforgeter? that's a good way to die in your sleep, man.

never went that easy for us, might just be the fact that were we lived the wood would get damp regardless how we covered it up.

we have ventilation, it's called the holes in the wall. Every now and then someone wakes up (me or my dad) and vents the trailer by opening the front door. This isn't the firs winter this has happened, happened last winter and a couple years before. The one a few years ago wasn't smoke though, something stopped the flame and filled our camper with loads of carbon monoxcide gas

Kerosene is not a good way to heat your place.
