My Mom and I where having an argument about this.
I said that she shouldn't "baby talk" small children. I say this because when you are young, the best way to learn something is by seeing other people do it and then trying to mimic them. This works with languages, such as English. When a child is learning English, they would assume everyone around them is speaking English. Having someone talk nonsensical modifications of English words to them, would confuse them and make them misinterpret those words as words of the actual English language. This would harm their learning process, and would keep them confused until they are old enough for people to stop babying them. She came up with the arguement, "well you don't know what it's like being an adult, you would look back at this and say wow" blah.
Hint: My mom doesn't like being wrong.

I'm an adult and that kind of talk annoys the stuff out of me.

It annoys me when people baby talk children that are in like 3rd grade...

just talk to your kid like a normal person.

Baby talk annoys the stuff out of me and I don't recall having been talked in that kind of way

why wouldn't you baby talk your child at least a little bit

they're not going to get a hold on speech patterns immediately.  it takes time for them to figure it out.  babytalking helps them figure it out slowly and surely at the mental pace of any infant.
