Is the Raspberry Pi good?

I'm going to save up to buy one. I will also need to buy a keyboard and mouse (for the most part, I will just be using my TV for it. That, or I'll get a cheap monitor off of craigslist).

It'll be my first non-Mac experience outside of school, so can any of you recommend it or is it not worth it?

It's made for like hobby projects and stuff, i use it in my robots sometimes

but if you want a slow ass fairly slow PC the size of a credit card then sure go for it

also, if you do happen to buy one use a OS made for the Raspberry Pi or it'll slow down the computer

I have one. It's fun for like a couple days. Now it just sits collecting dust. :(
It's god awful for web browsing because it lacks video drivers and the CPU has to render everything, taking up 99%, giving you like 10MHz to actually use for stuff.

yeah raspberry pi isn't intended to be an actual computer, it's supposed to be for super lightweight electronics like everyone said... robots and drones and stuff.

here's a tiny 200$ PC that's about as big as a apple, it's also not a total piece of slow garbage in terms of personal computing

if you need something small and absolutely minimal (i'm talking using it only to host some program like itunes on it or something) then go ahead. If you don't NEED something small and absolutely minimal then don't get it.

A lot of people go and buy these just because they're cheap and interesting, and then they realize they didn't need to get one in the first place because they're only good for web browsing(edit: nope guess not) and processing simple stuff like for robotics or some other application.

You could probably find a "broken" (usually just a shattered screen or something dumb) netbook on ebay for $100 that has better processing power than the raspberry pi.

The raspberry pi will cap its usefulness at being a web browser. If you're fine richarding around on the internet while waiting for someone else to get off the computer so you can play games, go for it. Just realize that you won't be able to run any programs really. Also realize that all the peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitor) will cost ten times more than the Raspberry Pi, which is pretty prohibitive.

You might as well get a used android phone. At least that can watch youtube videos...or load a BLF page with more than five images.
