I don't think that's the case. After looking up some more info, apparently there's a driver required to use some of its features.
Yeah you're right. I went and found the disk and manual that came with it and it says the drivers require Windows 7/vista.
Well I guess this is no longer a viable headset. Sorry for wasting your time.

Skullcandy SLYR is a really good set for $80, and it should be mac compatible because mine is usb

They sure look good, but I don't understand. Do you plug in the GMX in-line mixer's USB into your computer to use the headset and mic together? Also, does this GMX mixer require any drivers?

Yeah, you plug the aux cord from the headset into the mixer, and the mixer into your computer to use the headset/mic together.

I don't think it does, either. I'm not too sure about drivers though so I'd look it up jic

skull candy
Gonna bust in here for a sec and say that every pair of skullcandy headphones I've owned all broke within months of buying, with normal use. Maybe their quality has improved since then, but personally I wouldn't buy from them.

All I see are Windows-only drivers for those headsets. Also, my old one that cuts off (mentioned in the OP) is the H540.

Sennheisers are out of my budget. I'm not trying to get a surround sound experience, either. If it is stereo but good quality, I'd be happy.
This is the one I have: http://www.soundblaster.com/products/Sound-Blaster-Tactic-3D-Rage-Wireless.aspx
That's on the edge of my budget, and the rating for my newer but malfunctioning ones was higher.

Corsair Vengance 1500 is a really nice one.

Looks great, but it would only function as a stereo headset on my computer, according to Corsair's FAQ.

I have a pair of Skullcandy SLYR's and they're pretty good.

I had a pair of X12's before that for like 2 years and they still work, I gave them to a friend
