Try getting steam download speeds like this

I did not doctor or shop this photo

2.1MB/s isn't really that good.

bleh, so far I've been though the router settings and I can't figure out how to completly disable the wifi password
I can change the key type (e.g. wpa wpa2) change the encryption (e.g. aes) change the pass and change the username.
But I can't make the wifi open yet.

This isn't just a problem because it's unneeded and inconvenient, but also because one of our computers is pretty old and can't connect with the network set up as it is now.

Of course, then I'll go home and get 6 down and 0.5 up.

My school has 100 up and down. :(

why would you unprotect your wifi, i wouldn't even dare unprotect mine just for the sake of connecting an old computer whose network adapter can't handle that

There's nothing wrong with having unpassworded wifi. In fact people with passworded wifi kinda annoy me.

No one is going to sit outside your home and use your internet to hack the government or commit fraud or whatever else paranoid people think will happen.

they may use your wifi to torrent stuff and you won't be able to say "it wasn't me" because it's under your network no matter what.  not to mention they may attempt to break into your computer over the network.
