Author Topic: Laptop is falling apart. What can I do?  (Read 1115 times)

So my family laptop is falling apart cosmetically and it is actually causing some screen discoloration and even lose of video totally. My parents have already decided to get a new laptop and give this one to me. Can I remove the screen and just run it to a monitor?

I remember this happening to my old HP laptop, I recommend getting it fixed at a repair shop before the laptop is completely done for.

you can easily plug it into a monitor.

It's too late;
Just let nature run its course.
Use a computer, it's what it would have wanted.

laptops are computers though

you don't need to remove the screen to use a monitor...

Yea I know that but
i dont think the monitor will physically stay on. Its pretty much off already

and Im already hooked it up and using it on my monitor so all is good :)

Look at that, OP. Making the best of the situation at hand. Good luck and enjoy.

What is happening is that whatever is loose is probably causing the monitor cable to become unseated. I would take it somewhere to have it fixed.

However the worst case scenario would be a failing power inverter at which point you would need to find an exact replacement.

If you can't fix the monitor than just hook it into a normal monitor and use the laptop as a tower by plugging in a keyboard + mouse into it.

you can remove it sure.  if it's useless idk why not.

Keep it as a protective cover for the laptop to protect the keyboard + mousepad

If you honestly will never use the screen part and your laptop is somewhat recent, consider selling the LCD, it's the single most expensive part of the laptop.
