Author Topic: Youtube Automatic Copyright Rant  (Read 24735 times)

This automatic copyright detector on youtube is really pissing me off.
So, today I posted a video on youtube so that my family can watch it on their TV and so that other people can too.
Just in case, I added an annontation that said that if you have a copyright issue, you should check the description.
I even added a whole disclaimer in the description. Here it is:
Quote
Copyright Info (because sometimes companies can be greedy D:)-

Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for fair use for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use
And so, when the video was done, getting published, I get an email, reguarding my youtube video. I was like, what the forget?
And I log on to youtube to see this:
Quote
Your video may include content that is owned by a third party.

To watch the matched content please play the video on the right. The video will play from the point where the matched content was identified.
Your video is available and playable.
Here are the details:

"Saturday Night Live", audiovisual content administered by: 0:02
NBC Universal Your dispute awaiting response by 02/20/14
And yes, I disputed a response to tell them basically to forget off.
I have nothing against google, but this robot.. it's handicapped to the max.
Here's my disputed claim:

The description literally has a copyright disclaimer in it. I am posting this video under fair use and it will gain me no profit whatsoever.
And as you can tell, I was pissed.
And to piss me off even more, I cannot upload videos longer than 15 minutes, and it says this:
Quote
Content ID claims Not in a good standing
And I posted a spongebob theme song video (don't ask), and I just disputed a claim yesterday (5+ hours ago) and that STILL has not been reviewed yet. I have gotten no response. Reguarding the matter, I emailed Nickelodeon and they haven't responded yet either.
Ugh.

This is obviously divine punishment for your thread containing said video yesterday

I agree with Setro.

There used to be this thing called "One True Media" or something like that and it had a feature where you could add music. The video I uploaded was a slideshow so I added music (like they recommended).

12 hours later I get a loving alert that the video contained copyrighted music. Why the heck would YouTube have the feature of OTM, with music, and not let you use the music?

And I posted a spongebob theme song video (don't ask)
Viacom

would it still count if you made the video private and just gave your family a link

Quite a large number of people are being flagged for no reason. TeamHeadKick  even made a video about it, expressing their concerns and explaining why this is happening, and how. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzztXCftc2w

I'm not even a Youtuber and this is irking me. At one point, the trailer for Tales of the Borderlands was actually REMOVED from their channel because of copyright. From the OFFICIAL CHANNEL. Third party music industries should never get control over this sort of thing to such an extreme, and something like automatic flagging and removal should NEVER be considered an option. I'm very sorry for the pain that Youtube's bull has put you through and I truly hope that they fix it, soon.

Okay that THK video worried me.

At least I only have Blockland videos with no audio

Edit: this means guys don't upload videos with music bricks playing

YouTube is complete stuff now. Everyone should move on to another website.

Im fairly sure a screencapture of spongebob isnt covered by the fair use act.

the intention was so that his family could watch it, just because, so no, it is not

you mean you cant use content you didnt make? the world we live in

the very moment google/youtube started paying out ad money to youtube users, you basically accepted it as "earning" and it applies to all of youtube regardless if you are getting ad cash or not.

deal with it. make your own damn content. dont use youtube.
you are literally fighting against what you already agreed to in the terms.

you guys and your ego need subscribers and likes. and its all bullstuff. youtube use to just be a place where you can have a video uploaded and use a link to show people. the way it should be. quit trying to social media whore your stuff, especially when you just stole content anyway.

Disputing a legit claim was not very smart imo

Guys, you're not allowed:
• Entertainment
• Educational videos
• Music
• Informative videos
• Basically anything that someone else created that was meant to be enjoyed.

Have fun!
