Author Topic: Why are brick textures 512x512??  (Read 2713 times)

So the resolution of brick textures in Blockland is 512x512, there's nothing really interesting about the textures anyway. Couldn't these be downsized to 256x256? There's just some transparent bevels on the edges, could there be a tickbox that loads 256 textures instead? There's alot of bricks in builds, and if you're loading some fairly high-res textures all over the place it's bad for memory usage if I'm not mistaken.

You can modify the textures to be 256x256 or even 128x128, only on the Steam version though, unless you make it read-only.

so that the texture isnt stuffty low detail?
512x512 is NOT high rest AT ALL. you're putting into reference to the size of the other blockland bitmaps. the smallest resolution that you can even set blockland to is higher than 512x512.
let alone, you can just put your texture quality down. that will lower the res of the textures.

That only affects the texture of the ground, bricks don't change at all when using that option.

Not like there's much detail anyway, it's just transparent bevels on the edges. There's alot of wasted space in the center.

Listen guys, it won't matter if it's 256x256 since texture filtering for bricks is disabled in Blockland, you don't really get that tri-linear filtering blur effect, back in the day textures were pixelated and rough and they fixed that by interpolating everything with a special filter. Possibly why games like "Eldritch" and "Minecraft" can keep their pixel art style.

That too I suppose, I didn't test that..

Still looks kinda good on minimum, also it didn't change for me... may it just be my installation??

i dont even notice a change

You need to reconnect for textures to take affect.

i dont even notice a change
Then you need glasses lol
Minimum is much blurrier.

Ohhhhhhh I get it now. I thought you didn't have to since the ground tex would update...

There's barely any change on Medium, Minimum isn't THAT blurry...
But I guess it's okay to not notice a difference, the setting is lowered and you get your extra frames and you don't notice a difference. It looks just as good as on best.

Isn't the ground texture a different texture from the brick texture? It's the brickTOP texture but placed over a green background
