Author Topic: [Beta released!] Japanese-ish sports car thingy (need naming suggestions)  (Read 7144 times)

If you are going to export your model from Blender, you have to use the old version. Demian posted a portable Blender with the exporter and the required Python stuff included.

Alex Dude has made a comprehensive guide about making cars in Blender.
Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for! I actually tried doing it through Blender, but it exported EVERYTHING in the scene, even though I had only ticked the car parts. I'll try following the tutorial and see it it works any better.

On the OP you said something about the Hands script you wanted/needed for the vehicle, If you want that implemented, ask lordician about it. He created it...

Behold! Updates!

The model is pretty much finished except for the steering wheel animation (help?), and so the only major thing I have left is tuning the car and posing the player (if possible) since the feet clip into the steering wheel.

Looks neat so far! If you want to animate your steering wheel, you need to add a bone for that. Parent the steering wheel to the bone and then animate it in the Action Editor. You only need to keyframes, one for -90 degrees rotation and the other should be +90. I normally keep 60 frames worth of space between the two frames, but it's up to you really. When you are exporting the animation, make sure to set it to "blend" and the reference frame should be left at 1.

Nice! i really like it. ive been waiting for a 240sx in blockland :)

Tuning, like using the custom car gui to customize the car looks or something? Oh nevermind it's a tuned variant isn't it?

I told you how, Ask Lordician about that. He is the creator about the Hands Script. Your vehicle is beautiful. :)

Absolutely beautiful and that's the best work I've ever seen!

Alright, a quick update before I go to bed:
I've sorted out the most important issues with the car, so here's an early beta for you to play around with: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5s1f1tr3q2dy2m8/Vehicle_Spirit.zip
It's not completely finished yet, but I'd like some feedback on what to change and what to keep.
Known issues:
  • Colors are screwed up in fixed-function mode.
  • The player's head sticks through the back window while in the rear seat.

Again, thanks a lot for the help and support I've gotten!

The colours mess up, because the non-recolourable bits (dash, etc) are within the same object as the recolourable stuff; you need to keep those things in separate objects. Select all the grey, white, orange, red, etc bits and separate them by pressing P.

Also, I noticed the steering wheel is not working properly, it should go from -90 degrees to +90 degrees. Yours currently goes from -90 to 0 degrees. The difference between the two states should be 180 degrees, not 90, though I might have not been to clear on that.

Also, your car is very prone to roll-overs which means the mass centre is too high in the model. You can fix that in the script or in the model. If you want to fix it in the model, all you have to do is to move the body upwards in Edit mode until the bottommost vertices are more or less in-line with the object centre (pink dot).

I Can here the Theme song for this Vehicle now....

it's damn fun though, this makes me really want a reliant robin in blockland. A vehicle designed to roll over would be brilliant.
